Qatari citizens are now able to perform a number of applications for personal documents, including exit permits, passports and IDs, electronically through Hukoomi (www.gov.qa), Qatar’s national government portal.
The new e-services allow citizens to bypass paperwork at the Ministry of Interior’s Nationality and Travel Documents Department, and complete the procedures from start to finish using Hukoomi’s secure Smart Card login and e-service applications.
“The launch of Hukoomi’s personal documents e-services will help save time for citizens,” said portal manager Mohannad Omar Naim at ictQatar. “Instead of waiting hours in line and filling out paperwork, people can now be able to perform all these tasks in the comfort of their homes with just a computer.”
The new e-services, launched in cooperation with MOI, include:
“Further instructions are available on Hukoomi, as we strive to make e-government more convenient for all,” said Naim.
In addition, applicants can pay for their transactions online using the portal’s secure national e-payment gateway. For some services, such as the issuance of passports and ID cards, users can opt to have the documents delivered through Q-post.
“Security will be ensured through proper authentication procedures,” said Naim. “In addition to the Smart Card login, a digital signature is required for a number of applications.”
The launch of the new e-services mark Hukoomi’s commitment in making government more accessible and transparent for the people of Qatar. The portal is already home to hundreds of services, including close to 100 transactional e-services. It won the 2011 Arab e-Content Award for best e-government content in the Arab region earlier in May.
