Msheireb Properties marks Qatar National Sports Day with tournaments and sporting activities

Msheireb Properties, the developer of the world’s first sustainable urban regeneration project, is demonstrating its support for Qatar National Sports Day by hosting a programme of sports activities for all its construction workers at its Msheireb Downtown Doha site.

The activities will run from 10.00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, and will feature various tournaments between Msheireb Properties employees, contractors, and construction workers. Sports will include football, volleyball and basketball which will see six teams compete in each event, with prizes for the winning team.

Dedicated facilities have been constructed by Msheireb Properties on site to accommodate the tournament. The company will also be arranging for the transportation of supporters, workers and colleagues from their accommodation to the tournament site.

Mohammed Al Marri

Mohammed Al Marri, Director-Projects, Msheireb Properties, said: “Sport is an essential component of Qatar’s National Vision 2030, and the country’s successes so far in raising its sporting profile, especially in being selected to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, demonstrate the nation’s determination to pursue sporting excellence at every opportunity. The Qatar National Sports Day is a welcome initiative that furthers that goal.

“Msheireb Properties is delighted to contribute with a programme of activities that reinforces our commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of our construction workforce as well as the importance of engaging with the community. Sports is a wonderful way to bring people together and encourage interaction amongst all those involved in the construction of our project. We very much look forward to the success of this event.”

To further showcase Qatar’s growing reputation as a sporting centre; the Msheireb Enrichment Centre, a cultural venture that is increasingly becoming a landmark for residents and visitors of Doha alike, will also be showcasing a number of sporting artefacts from Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim collection dating from 1960 including Soccer shoes and balls, Volleyball and Boxer Gloves; in addition to vintage trophies won by different teams for several competitions previously held in Doha.

Msheireb Properties has demonstrated its commitment to worker welfare through a number of initiatives, including an IT skills training course; an enhanced ‘Safety First’ worker safety campaign that goes above and beyond mandatory regulations; and the establishment of Iftar tents for construction workers during Ramadan.
