Vodafone Qatar is not considering billing the phone calls by the seconds yet saying customers have not asked for it and seemingly not a big issue for them.
The issue of “per second billing” was raised by the Peninsula during a media round table with Vodafone on Thursday citing some telecom operators in the UEA have already offered this phone rates to their customers.
Richard Daly, Vodafone Qatar CEO, said they have no plans yet about offering the tariff on both local and international calls by the seconds since they still have the lowest rates so far in the GCC region. “We have dropped the prices significantly from where it was before. We said: how long can we control the price and still make profit to be able to invest in the network,” Daly said.

“It very rare around the world,” Daly said as he explained the company has delved more into balancing the profit in the same way of giving the customers what they really want.
The “per second” billing however has been raised in the UAE telecoms market since last year. DU has already offered its growing number of customers with such scheme while Etisalat although had already sought approval with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority had not however implemented it.
The TRA has given the go-signal to both major telecom operators to charge mobile phone subscribers with per second for calls to ensure healthy competition in the UAE telecommunications market.
