Qatar Petroleum projects mark 52 million man-hours without LTI

Qatar Petroleum’s (QP) quest for excellence passed another major safety milestone at its sites by clocking an aggregate of 52 Million man-hours with any Lost Time Injury (LTI) at two key projects.

The World Class Safety Performances safety achievements were achieved at two multi-billion major capital projects currently being executed by the Technical Directorate of QP, the company said in a media statement Sunday. 

The projects are – the Port Expansion Project, in Ras Laffan Industrial City, which achieved 37 million man-hours without any LTI and the Gas Sweetening Facilities Project, in Mesaieed and Dukhan Industrial cities, which crossed 15 million man-hours without any LTI.

The achievements are significant since the average number of workers on both project sites was around 15,000 and the nature of the work involved in these projects is complex and the environment in which the work has been executed was challenging, the company said.

QP pays particular attention to Health, Safety and Environment and as such has developed systems and procedures that ensure Senior Management commitment and employees adherence. These systems and procedures ensure the contractors focus on delivering a project in a safe and secure environment.

To bring further emphases on safety, QP promotes a culture of ‘zero accident’. During the initial stage of the projects, QP sets a very challenging safety target of ‘zero accident’, which aims at executing all the project activities without any fatality or LTI, ensuring full compliance to QP HSE Regulations.

To safeguard against any accidents during the execution of the said projects, the company said, in addition to compliance with QP systems, procedures and regulations, various safety initiatives were introduced by QP and contractor, from project inception to its current stage to ensure that these outstanding performances are achieved.

These remarkable achievements would inspire future endeavours of QP and will raise the bar for the construction industry to strive towards excellence in HSE performance.

To commemorate these important achievements, QP had organized an awards ceremony earlier this month. QP’s Director Technical, Director Operations, Director Ras Laffan, Corporate HSE Manager, Engineering Manager (Major Projects), Managers of the said projects and other members of staff from QP along with key representatives from contractors attended the ceremony.
