Qatargas is participating in the fifth Annual Qatar Career Fair (QCF) being held under the patronage of His Highness The Heir Apparent, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, from 1 – 5 April at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
The event, which this year carries the slogan “Write the Next Chapter in Qatar’s Success” is being jointly organised by Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum, Emiri Diwan, Qatar University, and The Ministry of Labour.
“Change Your Future – Change the World” is Qatargas’ message this year to the hundreds of aspiring Qatari graduates and job seekers visiting the fair.
Commenting on Qatargas’ participation in QCF 2012, Mr. Ghanim Al-Kuwari, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer – Administration said: “The Qatar Career Fair provides us an excellent opportunity to showcase the outstanding employment and career development opportunities available at the world’s largest LNG producing company, Qatargas, and engage with young nationals who are preparing to embark on their careers. Our presence at this Fair is part of our Qatarization strategy, enabling us to meet and recruit qualified Qatari nationals in line with our commitment to ensuring Qatari participation in all areas of our company, contributing to our vision of becoming the world’s Premier LNG company by 2015.”

On the process of recruiting Qatari nationals at the fair, Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mannai, Human Resources Manager, Qatargas, said: “This is an important platform for us and National job seekers will be welcomed at the Qatargas pavillion by a team from our various professional backgrounds. They will take the details of interested candidates. All resumes will be reviewed and recorded for further follow up.”
Also, Adnan Hassan Al-Shaibi, Head of Qatarization & National Development Division, said: “Qatargas is committed to the development of local talent, enabling young nationals to achieve their fullest potential. Qatargas has introduced a comprehensive and full-fledged development programme for the nationals joining its workforce. The leading features of this programme include a tailor-made Individual Development Programme (IDP). This is an automated system that graduates and their coaches, use to record and monitor the progress of the graduate.”
“Access to a competence framework from which nationals can see a clear picture of the competences they need to develop, a dedicated Coach who provides graduates with guidance and support to ensure the individual’s development is kept on-track, recommending a variety of internal and external training courses, designed to help the gradaute develop their interpersonal skills as well as their technical job knowledge. e-learning and other off the job experiences such as discussion groups and networking events and forums, all compliment the ‘on the job’ supervised training. In addition, each national is provided with quarterly coaching by a career development specialist, and are encouraged to feed their own ideas back into the programme so it can be continuously improved.”
Qatargas offers scholarship opportunities for Qatari national high school graduates to enroll for undergraduate programmes in various disciplines as well as for those who have enrolled at universities. The company also runs a summer internship programme for Qatari national high school and university students. The internship programme provides students with valuable exposure to working in a world class company with professionals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. These structured internship programmes have an Internship Objective Plan (IOP) assigned for each Intern covering specific learning objectives and add value to the students’ CVs.
The Qatargas pavillion at the Career Fair is being manned by representatives of various Qatargas departments, led by Human Resources and Learning & Development. Job seekers can submit their CVs or upload them online at the stand. The Recruitment section will be looking for university graduates in various disciplines for potential job opportunities at Qatargas. Details regarding the Technical Preparation Programme (TPP), a vocation training programme for high school students are also available at the Qatargas stand.
This year, the company’s Qatarization Division is leading Qatargas’ student outreach programme involving visits to several high schools in Qatar to engage with Qatari National students and promote Qatargas’ internship and scholarship programmes and the career opportunities available in Qatargas, to help students plan their professional careers. This is an ongoing initiative as part of the company’s overall Qatarization programme.
Over the past two years, Qatargas has won two consecutive awards for its contribution towards the development of nationals in Qatar’s Energy and Industry sector. In 2011, Qatargas received the award for ‘Support for Training and Development’ while in 2010, the company won the award in the ‘Support for Qatarization’ category.
Qatargas is committed to supporting Quality Qatarization by attracting, developing and retaining qualified nationals. The company is actively pursuing the aim of achieving 50% Qatarization in line with the national strategy. Currently, over 550 Qatari nationals work across all departments in Qatargas, representing over 28% of the total work force. This year, the company is planning to hire over 60 nationals.
Earlier this year, Qatargas became the first company in Qatar to achieve accreditation for its professional engineers development programme, from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and Institution of Engineering Technology (IET). The accreditation indicates that Qatargas’ training and development programme meets the highest standards and that the company has committed qualified staff and resources to the professional development of engineers.
