AmCham Qatar hosts GreenGulf Inc. CEO and elects new Board of Governors

The American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering mutual cooperation and understanding between Qatar and the United States through trade, commerce and investment, recently hosted Mr. Omran Al-Kuwari, Co-Founder and CEO of GreenGulf Inc., at their Distinguished Speaker Series on 26 April at The St. Regis Doha.

Following welcoming remarks from AmCham Qatar Chairman Robert Hager, Managing Partner of Patton Boggs LLP Doha Office, members of AmCham Qatar and the Qatar business community were briefed on why solar energy is considered a viable option in Qatar.

Mr. Al-Kuwari began by discussing energy production methods and energy consumption trends in the region. “Energy consumption in the Middle East grew by 56% in the first decade of the century, four times the global rate,” said Mr. Al-Kuwari who then detailed contributing factors such as population and industry growth.

Mr. Al-Kuwari indicated that key initiatives are laying the foundation for the use of clean technology in Qatar, citing projects by Qatar Foundation, Qatar National Convention Centre and Qatar 2022 among others. Members were also informed about the Qatar Science and Technology Park Solar Test Facility which will operate under a joint study agreement between GreenGulf Inc. and AmCham Qatar member Chevron. Following Mr. Al-Kuwari’s presentation was a vibrant Question & Answer session, particularly engaging AmCham Qatar members representing the infrastructure and design sectors.

At AmCham Qatar’s Annual Member Meeting, immediately following Mr. Al-Kuwari’s remarks, a new Board of Governors was elected. The new Board consists of executives from AECOM, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Chevron, Citibank, Doha Marriott Hotel, ExxonMobil Qatar Inc., Fluor/QNFS, KBR, Libra Trading Company, Marsh Qatar LLC, Overseas Bechtel, Inc., Parsons International, Patton Boggs LLP, Qatar Airways and The Boeing Company.

AmCham Qatar hosts monthly events open to AmCham Qatar members and members of the business community. On 3 May AmCham Qatar hosts a Facilities Management Roundtable featuring executives from Qatar National Facility Services, MMG, New Image Building Services Gulf States LLC and OCS. On 4 June AmCham Qatar’s Distinguished Speaker Series features Mr. Naim Yazbeck, Country Manager at Microsoft Qatar.
