Common Thread pops up at the Katara Art Centre Fashion Boutique

Katara Art Centre (KAC) collaborates with Qatar’s only pop-up boutique, Common Thread for an exclusive trunk show, opening on Thursday 3^rd May, 7:00pm, building 5, Katara Art Centre. The travelling trunk show will feature 16 artists and designers each of which design or make their own products.

Common Thread is a pop-up boutique that provides local artists and designers with a platform to display and sell their products. The travelling trunk show takes place at various boutiques and salons across Doha and showcases a range of fashion accessories, jewelry, art pieces and clothes designed or made by artists based in Qatar.

Joanna Dallimore, Founder, Common Thread commented: “We are excited about this collaboration with the Katara Art Centre; we believe that we share the same vision to showcase locally based designers and artists. It is important to support the emerging community of fashion enthusiasts therefore we strive to create an open, friendly environment that has creative community.”

Katara Art Centre launched late last year with the sole objective of fostering and encouraging creativity. The Art Centre has provided gallery spaces for several successful exhibitions including Desine Espoir which brought together the biggest names in fashion for a humanitarian project; designers included Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Lanvin, Viktor & Rolf, Yves Saint Laurent and Emmanuel Ungaro.

Garine Kekejian, Commercial Manager of Katara Art Centre said, “Qatar has a developing fashion scene and we are proud to nurture these aspiring young designers by showcasing their work through our collaboration with KAC. We are pleased to be part of this event which supports Katara’s long term vision to educate, entertain and demonstrate the importance of cultural exchange.”

In support of local and regional talents, KAC has already unveiled many retail units including a design shop stocking artistic works of talented artists and designers in addition to a the first Art Bookshop of its kind in Doha with exclusive arts, fashion and design literature in English, Arabic and French.

The Fashion Boutique is another initiative which will showcase the latest collections from Qatar-based fashion designers.

Designers participating in this month’s trunk show include Fufi Design, Dana Jewelry, two4joy, Common Thread, Moda Key, Twenty30Forty, Nikki Newman, Cala Mari, Roqaya Al-Thani, Selina Farooqi, Ardoin Collection, Michella, Gabi, White Stain, Giovanile, Veil Art and Dana Riad.

Common Thread will be at Katara Art Centre from 10:00am-10:00pm, 3rd – 5^th May 2012, Katara Art Centre, Building 5, Katara.
