Dubai heads to Doha to promote a summer of fun

Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment in collaboration with Emirates Airline today unveiled its summer-long agenda of fun family entertainment and events set to be staged in Dubai.

Hosting a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel Doha as part of a GCC-wide road show, the contingent announced the start of a summer of fun with the highly anticipated Dubai Summer Surprises 2012, due to be held from 14th June to 14th July.

The launch of DSS will once again coincide with the opening of the highly popular Modhesh World one of the largest family edutainment venues in the Middle East, which will run until the end of Eid Al Fitr, expected to be around 22nd August, 2012.

Other signature DEPE events making up this year’s summer in Dubai calendar include Ramadan in Dubai and Eid in Dubai, which will mark Eid Al Fitr.

Ibrahim Saleh, Festivals Coordinator General and Deputy CEO of DEPE named Qatar among one of Dubai’s most important inbound feeder markets, with 122,000 Qataris visiting the city last year alone, based on hotel and hotel apartment occupancy figures. Saleh drew attention to the high visitor traffic being eased by the availability of as many as 20 daily direct flights between Dubai and Doha.

Saleh said: “Dubai is a perfect destination for Qataris, especially those choosing to travel with their families, because of the many cultural similarities as well as geographical proximity of the two cities which enable an easy commute. Dubai’s packed activity calendar and highly mature tourism infrastructure makes touring the city fun and easy to arrange, while the wide variety of events, activities and diversified shopping options – ranging from high-end malls to traditional souks – helps make for a vibrant destination.”

Emirates Airline

“DSS has dramatically transformed the summer months into an exciting and hugely beneficial period not just for the shopaholics, but also for the entire family. Qatar’s geographical closeness to Dubai renders the Emirate a perfect and exciting getaway for summer. With its remarkable shopping malls, architectural achievements, and entertainment options, Dubai continues to lead the way as one of the most popular destinations for travelers in the GCC,” said Khalid Alserkal, Emirates’ Country Manager Qatar.

Dubai Summer Surprises

Saleh showcased highlights of the summer season which begins with Dubai Summer Surprises 2012, which celebrates its landmark 15th edition this year under the slogan “Dubai. Summer Fun and More.” The popular summer festival will feature various events such as World of Stories, Min Beladi, Sheila and Abaya Fashion and Kids Fashion Week, in addition to international cartoon stage shows such as the Smurfs, Telettubbies, Hello Kitty, Barbie, Ice Age, and more.

DSS 2012 will – for the very first time – stage a Puppet Festival featuring renowned international companies who will conduct hundreds of fun filled puppet shows and workshops demonstrating how to create and manipulate puppets on stage.

DSS presents a great opportunity for shopaholics with fantastic shopping offers and discounts at more than 6000 retail outlets in 70 shopping malls. The summer period will also see a return of the ever-popular “Spa Packages” – an exclusive campaign offering unbeatable discounts on treatments at some of Dubai’s most renowned spas all through DSS.

Visitors can also look forward to plenty of opportunities to walk away a winner – with the return of the ever popular mega shopping raffles. In addition to cash prizes and more than three million dirhams worth of shopping vouchers, the summer festival will also stage weekly draws for Nissan Patrol cars, and numerous shopping mall raffles all through the summer.

Modhesh World

Adding to the family-friendly focus of Dubai’s summer activity calendar, Saleh highlighted the return of Modhesh World, the largest indoor edutainment venue in the region, which this year will take place at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. As always, the exciting venue will play host to numerous games, shows and activities in multiple themed zones, all enclosed in an air-conditioned area to allow families to enjoy a fun day out in complete comfort.

Ramadan in Dubai

Leading on from Dubai Summer Surprises, Ramadan in Dubai will see the city host many spiritual and family-friendly activities and events organized in collaboration with various government organizations in keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month.

Eid in Dubai

The festivities will continue during the happy occasion of Eid Al Fitr as the city comes to life with Arabic and Emirati-themed celebrations. The city will be strung up in colourful decorations, with evening performances by famous Arabic singers taking place to entertain both residents and visitors alike.
