Sony, the leading consumer electronics brand, today announced the launch of DEV-5, the world’s first digital binocular that has the capacity to record Full HD video with stereo sound, at the touch of a button. The DEV-5 is available at all Fifty One East’s outlets located in Al Maha centre, City Centre Doha and Villaggio, Landmarks malls, and Lagoona Mall.
Ideal for watching and capturing wildlife and sporting action in steady, sharply-focused close-up, Sony’s new binoculars has a 3D record mode that captures the scene as a thrilling stereoscopic video footage. Variable zoom allows users to scan a wide area at low magnification before zooming in seamlessly to pinpoint the distant subject.
By turning on digital zoom at magnification settings over 10x, the DEV-5 boosts total magnification range from 0.9x up to 20x, rivalling many high-powered conventional binoculars. Unlike traditional binoculars, electronic autofocus keeps the subject sharply resolved at all times and even in motion. Electronic autofocus also allows this unit to focus clearly on subjects as close as 1cm away when recording in 2D and a minimum of 80cm when recording in 3D. A comfortably positioned dial also allows fingertip adjustment of manual focus. Ideal for focusing selectively on the subject, it eliminates the intrusion of overhanging branches or other obstructions in the user’s field of view.
Separate images for left and right eyes are captured by a matched pair of precision G Lens optics by Sony with Exmor R CMOS sensors and powerful BIONZ processors. Independent electronic viewfinders provide clear, detailed images for left and right eyes, offering a 3D viewing experience that is comfortable, natural and highly immersive.
The digital binocular features SteadyShot (Active mode), the optical stabilisation system found in Sony’s Handycam® camcorders and Cyber-shot™ cameras. Optical SteadyShot keeps images clear and stable, even when viewing at high magnifications.
Users can connect the binoculars via HDMI® to BRAVIA® or any HD/3D television for big-screen sharing. A USB terminal for transferring video clips to the PC for storing, editing and sharing is also provided.
Comfortable to hold for extended periods, DEV-5 has an ergonomic grip area that is coated with an elastomer material for sure-handling and stable operation. Top-mounted controls allow easy operation even with gloved fingers, while dual buttons are provided to start recording instantly with either hand.
The DEV-5 has a minimal ‘stealth’ design that eliminates distracting buttons or external details to provide ease of use in the field. As an additional refinement, the DEV-5 includes an on-board GPS receiver that automatically geotags video clips as the user travels. Tagged clips and images can be viewed after shooting, on online maps.
The unit features a high-capacity rechargeable battery pack (NP-FV70) that permits up to approximately three hours of 2D recording on a single charge.
The DEV-5 includes a battery charger/adaptor, A/V connecting cable and USB cable for connecting to a PC and uploading video files. In addition, it comes with a lens cover, finder cap, large eye cups, a carrying case and neck strap.
