Diabetes Prevention Camp ends on a sweet note

The Diabetes Prevention Camp (DPC) hosted by Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) and sponsored by RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) ended yesterday on a sweet note for participating youth and elders alike.

Youth were given life saving tips on food, making the right lifestyle choices and healthy cooking by expert dieticians that will stand them in good stead for their future.

RasGas believes in leading by example and is committed to educating the younger generation on maintaining a healthier lifestyle. On May 16th, 15 RasGas employees visited the boys’ camp for a day of education and fun at the Barzan Youth Centre. RasGas employees joined the youth in their morning exercises, challenged them to a friendly football match and learnt about how to prepare and cook healthy meals and make the right food choices that impact our health.

Sixty-six boys and girls aged between 12 and 16 enjoyed the week-long unique opportunity offered by QDA which equips them with the knowledge and tools to improve their daily choices on nutrition and exercise and helps reduce their risk of developing diabetes and other obesity-associated diseases.

“RasGas is committed to supporting the community through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. As RasGas employees, we’re proud to play our role in raising awareness on healthy lifestyle choices by leading by example,” said RasGas Subsurface Manager David Frye.

“The DPC takes a holistic approach to preventing diabetes and we are very happy with the continuous support and active participation from RasGas. When our youth find that adults from within their community take an active interest in their health, they find a role model to look up to and the work we are doing becomes much more impactful,”  said Abdullah Al Hamaq, Executive Director at Qatar Diabetes Association commenting on RasGas support to the association’s initiatives.

Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme which nominated 2012 as its Year of Health, RasGas is a proud supporter of the two Diabetes Prevention Camps hosted by Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA). The 2012 Year of Health campaign is targeted at the company’s employees and the broader community and aims at raising awareness on the importance of leading a healthier lifestyle through nutrition, exercise and healthier habits in our everyday lives.
