Vodafone Qatar was announced as the first place winner of the Entrepreneurial Support Award during the Reyada Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony which was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
The award was given in appreciation to Vodafone’s active role in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship through the “Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012” and “The World of Difference” programmes.
The Reyada Entrepreneurship Awards, launched by the Social Development Center (SDC) is a leading entrepreneurship program in Qatar, designed to celebrate the Qatari Entrepreneur and the supporters of entrepreneurship through recognition and rewards. Through Reyada, Social Development Center aims to help create a culture of initiative and innovation, where ambition and drive are recognized and encouraged.
“It’s our pleasure to be able to support both entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurship. We want to make a World of Difference to all the people of Qatar, and one way of achieving that is by giving others the opportunity to make a difference in their own way,” said Richard Daly, CEO of Vodafone Qatar.
World of Difference is an initiative part of ‘Better World’, Vodafone Qatar’s corporate social responsibility strategy. It is a unique flagship project and the first in Qatar in which Vodafone Qatar gives people the opportunity to receive funding for 12 months to undertake projects to help the community in Qatar.
Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012 is a program which Vodafone came up with in partnership with QITCOM, bringing together talented mobile developers from all over Qatar to compete for over QR 50,000 in prizes and inclusion in ictQatar’s coveted incubation program called Dajtala.
In Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012, teams raced against the clock to code and create a working demo for a new mobile app in one of the following categories: Apps in Arabic, Apps for Women, Apps for Mobile Games, and Apps for Al Sadd Fan Club.
