Qatar Petroleum has strong presence at the 25th World Gas Conference

Qatar Petroleum (QP) along with its joint venture companies, RasGas and Qatargas, has a highly prominent participation in the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC), which formally opened Monday at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia.

Held with the theme “Gas: Sustaining Future Global Growth,” the 25th WGC brings together the world’s leading oil and gas companies, the top management of these firms and hundreds of industry professionals for an in-depth discussion of the current state and future directions of the global gas industry. The triennial event is organised by the International Gas Union (IGU), a non-profit organisation whose members from a total of 77 countries, including Qatar, account for over 95 percent of the global gas market.

With the State of Qatar having the world’s third largest gas reserves and with its preeminent position as the world’s No. 1 producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), QP has a very strong presence at the 25th WGC, following the directives of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP.

The high-profile delegation from Qatar is led by Mr. Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi, QP Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of RasGas Company Ltd., and Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas Operating Company Ltd. Mr. Al-Mohannadi will be delivering a keynote address entitled “The Next Phase for Global LNG” on Wednesday, while Sheikh Khalid will be chairing another keynote session of the 25th WGC on the same day.

At Monday’s inauguration ceremony, His Excellency Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, formally opened the 25th WGC exhibition and he visited the QP stand, where he was presented with a gift by Sheikh Khalid.

Many other senior officials from QP, RasGas and Qatargas are also attending the 25th WGC. The QP delegation includes Mr. Mohd Jassim Mohd Ahmed Al-Baker, Director Mesaieed; Mr. Ahmad Saif Ahmad Al-Sulaiti, Operations Manager – Dukhan Fields.; and Mr. Eid Mubarak Mohd Al-kashashi Al-Muhannadi, Operations Manager (Gas Operations).

Many members of the delegation will be taking part in the panel sessions, committee sessions, expert forums and interactive poster sessions. For instance, Mr. Nicholas Harry Blessley, Manager for Strategic Planning at QP, will deliver a presentation on “The Future of Gas Formation – The NOC View” in one of the committee sessions scheduled for Tuesday.

In addition to the delegation’s active role in the conference, QP is also one of the major exhibitors at the 25th WGC exhibition, which has attracted the participation of over 300 companies from more than 40 countries worldwide. The QP stand prominently features the corporation’s activities as well as the operations of Qatargas and RasGas, which are the event’s principal sponsor and diamond sponsor, respectively.
