Qtel is looking for volunteers for an ambitious initiative to improve living conditions in underprivileged households with its new Refaq Programme.
The Qtel Refaq programme will bring together Qtel employees and volunteers to provide invaluable support for up to 50 households that have been identified through extensive field research. It will start in June, and run until the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The project aims to assess homes that are in poor condition and provide major home improvements. Run-down houses will be transformed with the support of Qtel and a team of volunteers, in a campaign that will reach out across the nation. In addition, the programme will also focus on supplying families with much-needed goods and services such as product vouchers, air conditioning and refrigerators.
The Refaq programme is open for volunteers from today, and the project is looking for engineers, project managers, decorators and interior designers and anyone who’s willing to donate their time to volunteer to help refresh and refurbish homes over the coming months. Volunteers can apply via the website www.refaq.qa, with the deadline for application entries on 3 July 2012.
Each project will be tailored to address the specific needs of the family in question, including help with the interior and exterior of the home, and even landscaping. At a special lunch meeting on Saturday, 23 June, Qtel Senior Staff and the organisers of Refaq came together to inaugurate the campaign, and outline some of their ideas for projects in support of the initiative.
A number of young people are taking part, building on a connection with youth-centred community organizations like Tumooh and U-Change, which aim to connect talented and committed individuals to worthy causes benefiting Qatar as a whole.
The Qtel Refaq programme is the latest in a long line of projects to emerge from Qtel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy that places pressing community needs as a top priority and encompasses education, healthcare, environmental issues, social welfare initiatives and sport.
Volunteers of any nationality over 18 can still sign-up on the website www.refaq.qa, connect via Facebook at www.facebook.com/refaq.qa or Twitter on refaq_qa. Full training, t-shirts and ID badges will be provided for all volunteers.
