OXY to sponsor ROTA Ramadan Programme

Demonstrating its commitment to Qatari society, oil and gas exploration and production Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (Oxy Qatar) is sponsoring Reach Out To Asia’s (ROTA) Ramadan 2012 Programme as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program.

Running throughout the entire Holy Month, the ROTA Ramadan Programme, sponsored by OXY, features initiatives including grocery distribution to families in need, renovating two family homes, three community Iftar events for children with special needs, and a fundraising photo exhibition.

The Ramadan programme concludes with ROTA volunteers celebrating the joy of Garangao with children at the Hamad Hospital Pediatric Wards and Hamad Children’s Rehabilitation Centre.

Welcoming news of the OXY sponsorship, ROTA Director Mr. Essa Al Mannai said: “I thank OXY for their generous sponsorship and commitment to our Ramadan Programme. The Holy Month reminds us all to go the extra step to support those less fortunate and the ROTA-OXY partnership will benefit families and children in need.”

One of Qatar’s major energy companies since 1994, OXY is currently drilling the fourth phase of field development of the Idd El Shargi North Dome. In addition, OXY is a partner in the Dolphin Project, which supplies natural gas produced from wells offshore Qatar to customers in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Mr. Steve Kelly, President & General Manager, stated: “At Oxy, we are proud to support ROTA’s Ramadan 2012 ‘New Beginnings’ Project. We are confident that this partnership today will assist in improving the lives of children, encouraging the concept of volunteerism locally & contributing to  empowering youth in the local community. As this program will go a long way in significantly contributing towards the humanitarian role provided by ROTA in our community, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank  H. E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for the continuous efforts to promote such programs that have a great impact on the life of people in Qatar.”
