Dukhan Operations hosts delegation from Saudi Aramco

Dukhan English School (DES), an international school owned by Qatar Petroleum (QP), recently marked the end of another academic year by handing out awards to its students in a ceremony attended by His Excellency Mr. Michael O’Neill, the British Ambassador to Qatar.

H.E. Mr. O’Neill was welcomed at the prize-giving ceremony by DES staff and officials led by Mr. Ahmad Saif Ahmad Al-Sulaiti, Operations Manager-Dukhan Fields and Chairman of the DES Board of Governors.

The British ambassador later presided over the presentation of the School Citizen Awards, which recognize DES students who are always prepared to help others and have consistently demonstrated care, consideration and courtesy to their fellow students. A total of 11 students received the award this year, and each of them was congratulated personally on stage by the British ambassador.

“We were highly privileged to have H.E. Mr. O’Neill in attendance during our prize-giving ceremony this year, and we are confident that his presence at the event would truly inspire our students to always strive for excellence in their studies,” said Mr. Derek Andrew Jones, Headmaster of DES.

Other awards given out during the prize-giving ceremony were the Awards for Academic Excellence, Awards for Academic Endeavour, the Duke of Edinburgh Gold International Awards, the DES Scholars’ Prizes, and the Headmaster’s Awards. Talented students were also honoured with the Dynamic Sporting Awards, Leonardo da Vinci Awards, as well as the Beethoven Music, Shakespeare Drama and Dyson Design Awards.

As part of the ceremony, which was held on July 5 at the Dukhan Recreation Centre, Mr. Al-Sulaiti also delivered a speech, during which he extended his congratulations to the students and their parents. He also expressed his gratitude to the DES staff for their unwavering commitment to the education of the students.

To entertain the audience, the prize-giving ceremony also featured musical and dance performances by DES students and staff. Among these were performances by the Dukhan English School Jazz Band, a Mongolian dance by the school’s Cultural Dance Group, and a performance entitled “Lovely Summer’s Day” by pupils between the ages of 3-7.

With its history traced back to the early 1950s, the Dukhan English School is recognised as one of the oldest English-medium schools in Qatar. It implements the National Curriculum of England and Wales, and it serves the educational needs of the children of QP employees who are based in Dukhan. The school has a total of five sections, from Key Stage 1 to 6th Form. With up to 32 different nationalities represented in the school, DES operates following the principles of “Unity in Diversity, Trust and Partnership, and Learning for Life.”
