Katara rolls-out its Ramadan program

Katara, the cultural village today announced its Ramadan program, which is expected to begin on 19th July to 30th August.

Four exhibitions are expected to kick start this year’s Ramadan program. These include “The Beauty of Words”, an Islamic Arts Exhibition in collaboration with the Sheikh Faissal bin Qassim Al Thani museum, a large light installation exhibition, “The Garden of Contemplation” by artist Simon Heijdens, “A Matter of Time”, a clocks sculpture exhibition by artist Daniel Weil, and a painting exhibition with recent works by Qatari artists incorporating Arabic Calligraphy in their work.

The Ramadan program includes other activities such as Qur’an classes, a Ramadan Souq, Book Bazaar, Islamic lectures, and Itlalet Ramadan. In addition, Katara Art Studios is also expected to host a special program that caters to adults, families and children alike.

Dr. Emad Sultan, Cultural Affairs Director said, “We are keen to build upon the success of last year’s Ramadan program by continuing to provide visitors with a stream of exciting educational and cultural activities. We look forward to welcoming all members of the community, as they enjoy the rich art and culture Katara has to offer during this year’s Ramadan program.”

The five day Anasheed Festival includes a series of concerts which feature prominent Arab and international artists, such as, Maher Zain, Mishari Al Afasy, Mesut Kurtis, Toyor AlJanah, Ahmed Bu Khater, Sameer Al Bashiri, Osama Al Safy, Humoud Al khuder and Ameen Hameem. In partnership with the Ministry of Islamic affairs (Awqaf) Qur’an classes have also been organized for children under the age of seventeen at two of Katara’s Mosques.

Katara Art Studio is also expected to host educational programs that focus on enhancing creative engagement. Visitors will also have the opportunity to browse through the wide selection of bilingual reading material available at the weekend Book Bazaar, which is organized in collaboration with Al Sharq newspaper.

Additionally, The Katara Art Center (pictured) will feature activities and inspiring art exhibitions throughout Ramadan. Attractions include a fashion boutique featuring designs by Lina Hajjar and WAAD amongst others, in addition to a variety of books and storytelling, an old calligraphy exhibition and traditional Qatari household items for sale.
