The tournament is organised by Barwa Bank in which 16 teams have registered to play in 4 groups from July 21 till August 8. Barwa Bank will triple the amount of registration fees and donate it to Qatar Charity to help families in Qatar during the month of Ramadan.
Mr. Saeed Al-Nabet, Head of Barwa Bank’s Football Committee , commented on the occasion: “Football is the number one popular sport amongst youth in Qatar as it is around the world. We want this initiative to be a platform for them to practice their passion while contributing to the well being of others during the holy month of Ramadan. We would like to thank Qatar Football Association for their support with the upcoming tournament, and Al Sadd Sports Club for providing us their indoor stadium. We are proud to be investing in Qatar’s most valuable asset, its youth, and hope to continue to grow the profile and importance of this championship in the years ahead”.
The championship aims at encouraging sports and healthy lifestyles among youth in Qatar, as well as giving the football fans and players an opportunity to contribute to the well being of the community. The tournament comes in line with Barwa Bank’s social and charity activities. The Bank has launched many initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and supporting communities around the world. One of the recent initiatives was the sponsorship of two Qatari youth to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of the famine in West Africa.
As part of its social initiatives Barwa Bank is launching a promotional campaign during the month of Ramadan this year to help educate children in Niger. The Bank will donate for this cause whenever a customer opens a high profit savings account, applies for a credit card or transfers their salary.
Mr. Hamad bin Abdulmuhsen Al Fayyad, Marketing Manager of Qatar Charity commented on the initiative: “We would like to thank Barwa Bank for their continuous charity initiatives and the special relation with Qatar Charity.
