Katara, the Cultural Village, tonight opens the doors to the Katara Art Studios and Education Workshop Building. Situated at the heart of the creative zone, located in Building 19, Katara will host the grand opening, expected to be attended by the creative community and well known art professionals in Qatar.

Katara Art Studios (KAS) is a fully equipped art studio, a lounge library and two workshop rooms where educational programs in visual arts will be delivered and developed. KAS will also host an International Artist in Residency Program which has been developed and supported by Katara in three artist studios.
Sa’id Costa, Curator of Visual Arts Exhibitions and Educational Programs said, “We are delighted to welcome guests to join us tonight for the VIP opening of Katara Art Studios. We look forward to welcoming visitors from across the region to enjoy our state of the art facilities and enjoy the festivities at Katara over the holy month of Ramadan.”

Sa’id added: “We are confident that the new Katara Art Studios will have an important active role in supporting and developing our Qatari Artists and It will provide them with a platform to showcase their artistic abilities and enhance creative engagement.”
KAS will also host guest artists during their exhibitions at Katara Galleries and serve as educational base from where knowledge exchange will be promoted and encouraged between the International Artists in Residence, the guest artists, and Qatari artists.
The opening of the Art Studios tonight kick starts the Ramadan program which also includes four exhibitions: “The Beauty of Words”, an Islamic Arts Exhibition in collaboration with the Sheikh Faissal bin Qassim Al Thani museum, a large light installation exhibition, “The Garden of Contemplation” by artist Simon Heijdens, “A Matter of Time”, a clocks sculpture exhibition by artist Daniel Weil, and a painting exhibition with recent works by Qatari artists incorporating Arabic Calligraphy in their work. Ramadan program runs until the 30th August and features a rich variety of educational and cultural activities, including an Anasheed Festival, Ramadan Souq, Qur’an classes, and exhibitions.
