Qtel Mobile Money extends to Nepal

Customers of the pioneering Qtel Mobile Money service can now transfer money to Nepal, as the service continues to expand the number of international destinations available.

Easy, safe and convenient, Qtel Mobile Money provides a 24/7 facility to transfer funds instantly to Himalayan Bank, NIBL Bank and eSewa, which provides an instant connection with 18 major banks in Nepal. As part of the launch promotion, Qtel customers can transfer money for just QR10 for a limited time only.

The service is set to find a receptive audience throughout Qatar, which is currently home to a Nepalese population of around 200,000 people. Since its launch in October 2011, Qtel Mobile Money has emerged as one of the most convenient services of its kind in the region.

Customers are able to transfer money domestically and overseas, and buy Hala Top-Ups using their Mobile Money mWallet. Customers can send money to Nepal, Pakistan and the Philippines, and more destinations are set to be added in the coming months.

They can even withdraw cash directly from Qatar National Bank’s nationwide network of ATMs using their mWallet accounts without having to use an ATM card or even having a bank account. The latest announcement is the latest in a series of telecommunication collaborations between Qatar and Nepal.

In May 2012, Qtel and Nepal Telecom signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Multi-service Point of Presence (PoP) to link the latter’s network to Qtel’s world-class voice and global Internet network, ensuring a faster and more efficient service for customers in Qatar and the wider GCC region when they connect to Nepal.
