Action on Diabetes takes Garangao joy to children in HMC, Dreema and Qatar Diabetes Association

As part of its awareness campaign during the holy month of Ramadan “Action On Diabetes”, a partnership initiative between Supreme Council Of Health, Qatar Diabetes Association, Hamad Medical Corporation and Maersk Oil Qatar held Garangao celebration, a mid-Ramadan festival for children celebrated on the 14th night of Ramadan. The event took place on August 02, 2012, at Hamad Medial Corporation facilities.

The celebration included distribution of diabetes friendly Garangao bags with healthy alternative to the usual sweets and nuts. The bags which included fresh fruits and a selective of unsalted nuts, were given to visitors as well as to the young patients in various departments of the hospital. In addition, the initative extended the celebration to include Dreema and Qatar Diabetes Association where children also received healthy Garangao treats.

Organized as part of Action On Diabetes campaign, this celebration aims at increasing awareness of healthier options among children and their families. It also aims at reaching out to the children who may not be able to join celebrations due to their illness.

Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Al Thani, Director of Public Health, Supreme Council of Health commented on the occasion: “Action On Diabetes is all about change to a healthier lifestyle for diabetics and every one of us. This is why we thought of bringing this change to the kids who might not be able to share the joy of Garangao celebrations. We have brought them health and joy and we will continue to do that through the rest of the campaign’s activities during Ramadan and beyond”.
