Barshim eyes high jump gold at London Olympics

Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim will begin his campaign in Men’s’ High Jump Event  at the 2012 London Olympic Games on Sunday.

Sunday’s competitions include Women’s 400 Metres Hurdles, Men’s High Jump, Women’s Triple Jump, Men’s 100m, Men’s 1500m, Men’s Hammer Throw, Men’s 400m, Women’s 400 m, Men’s 3000m Steeplechase and Men’s 100m.

At the 2012 indoor Asian Championships, held in Hangzhou, China, on 19 February 2012, Barshim won the gold medal and established a new personal best (and national record) of 2.37 m (7’9.25″), breaking the previous championship record of 2.34: it was also the highest indoor jump in the world, to date in 2012.

The Qatari squad includes Noor Al-Malki (Women’s 100m), Hamza Driouch (1500m), Mohammed Al-Qarni (1500 m), Mohammed Bakheet (Marathon), Mutaz Barsham (High Jump) and Musaab Abdulrahman Balah (men 800 m).
