The Engineering Department of Qatar Petroleum (QP) and the Infrastructure Department of Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC), a directorate of QP, recently completed a vital phase of the Sealine road expansion and modification project. The completion is a major boost to traffic on the only road to the Sealine Beach Resort.
The work, which began on 24th July 2011 and covered approximately 10 kilometers of the project’s 15-kilometer length, was completed ahead of schedule. The final cost of the whole project is estimated at QR140 million.
The completed phase included the construction of three new roundabouts, modifications to one existing roundabout, the installation of lighting at the roundabouts, and the installation of crash barriers in the central median. It also involved installing traffic signs and road markings, utility services, and surface water drainage as well as improving the existing unpaved shoulders/verges for emergency purposes.
The Project Manager of Engineering Department (Onshore) at QP’s Technical Directorate said, “The Technical Directorate is pleased to have been able to complete a vital stage of this project in cooperation with MIC Infrastructure Department in record time. It reflects the commitment and productive spirit of team work among the various departments of Qatar Petroleum.”
“The project’s completion ahead of time was a result of continuous and rigorous efforts by all parties involved, and MIC’s follow-up and guidance were also essential to the success of the project,” said Mr. Antoine Nasser, Acting Manager of Infrastructure Department and Head of Projects Interface at MIC.
The completion marks a significant improvement to the approximately 15-km Sealine Road, from a two-lane carriageway to a divided dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction between the cloverleaf interchange and the Sealine Resort roundabout. The newly opened road will greatly decrease the number of vehicular accidents due to overtaking and speeding which occur on this busy route throughout the year.
The next phase of the project, the construction of a 1.4-kilometer road leading to the Sealine Beach Resort, is scheduled for completion in October 2012. Current work progress indicates that this road is also likely to be finished ahead of schedule.
MIC continues in its commitment to undertake all necessary projects for the benefit of the industries, residents and the public visiting the cultural and entertainment landmarks of Mesaieed.
