Delta Doha Corporation and Qatar Shell signed a new long-term service contract for “Local SGP Burner Repair” on the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The signing was the outcome of a long journey of qualification and preparation for this type of service that used to be contracted to overseas contractors.
The contract was signed by Mr. Stephen Johnson – Vice President for Production at Pearl GTL and Mr. Wesam Swelem – Managing Director of Delta Doha Corporation in the presence of senior representatives from both parties.
The “SGP Burner” is a critical piece of equipment for the GTL process and hence maintaining the burners in excellent condition is a must at all time. The size and scale of these reactors meant that local provision of maintenance service was the most convenient option as long as it meet’s the plant’s stringent quality and safety measures.
The prequalification process started about two years ago when seven local service contractors had been examined in round one, then shortlisted to three contractors in round two. Delta Doha Corporation had met the scope’s technical requirements and Qatar Shell’s quality and HSE standards. The award came after a one year trial contract which helped both parties to develop a close working relationship.
Stephen Johnson said: “Qatar Shell is committed to working with local business partners and develop their competencies. This is part of our commitment to supporting the country’s vision 2030. Today’s signing is the outcome of several months of hard work from Delta Doha Corporation and I am looking forward to a successful business cooperation with them”.
