The St. Regis Doha celebrated the country’s Olympic athletes by honouring one of the bronze medal winners on the evening of August 15.
At the London Olympics, two of Qatar’s athletes won the third and fourth medals in the country’s history: Nasser Al Attiyah won the bronze in skeet shooting, and Mutaz Essa Barshim won the bronze for high jump. Last night, the St. Regis Doha invited both athletes to the celebration shortly after they returned home, though only Al Attiyah could attend since Barshim had previous travel arrangements.
“We congratulate the Qatar’s superb Olympic athletes, and are proud to have feted Al Attiyah with a regal welcome at the finest address in town,” said Tareq Derbas, General Manager at The St. Regis Doha.
At 11 pm, Al Attiyah pulled into the St. Regis driveway, and a team of more than a dozen butlers presented him with bountiful bouquets of flowers, plus gift vouchers for a complimentary stay in the elegant Caroline Astor Suite and a complimentary dinner at the soon-to-open Astor Grill. The St. Regis Doha will send Barshim vouchers, as well.
The suite is named after the “guiding spirit” of the St. Regis vision, and has bespoke furniture and hand-crafted Arabian-inspired designs with a view that overlooks the Arabian Gulf.
After signing the gilded VIP book and cutting an Olympic-themed cake in the grand lobby, butlers whisked Al Attiyah to a private cabana inside the Ramadan Tent, where he dined on delicious classic dishes from the Middle East and Mediterranean.
