33 Qatari undergraduates experienced the inside Qatar Shell life over summer as they worked alongside Shell employees in various departments such as Asset Engineering, North Field Wells Reservoir, Finance, Legal, Communications, Human Resources, Information Technology and Research.
“Qatar Shell aims to become the employer of choice for Qatari nationals, who will lead the delivery and operation of Shell’s current and future projects,” said Wael Sawan (pictured), Qatar Shell’s Executive Vice President. “Qatar invests substantially in the development of its young people as part of its vision for the future. Shell is proud to support these efforts by attracting and grooming bright local talents to become leaders of the future”.
Qatar Shell’s internship program is one of the company’s most effective routes to recruit Qatari graduates into the company. In addition to providing a hands-on opportunity to experience what it feels like working with an international oil company, it also provides the business the chance to assess the undergraduate’s performance.
“The internship program with Qatar Shell allowed me to gain insight into the energy industry in Qatar and helped me make an informed decision on the career choice I would like to pursue after I graduate,” said Noora Al-Mannai, an intern from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Services in Qatar. “I have achieved much more than I had initially thought possible, thanks to the encouragement of my colleagues.”
The undergraduates receive practical coaching from their supervisors with the aim of developing them so they are ready to join the work force once they graduate. It also gives the interns the opportunity to get to know Shell and its work culture before considering and pursuing an employment with the company.
On July 15, Shell celebrated the commencement of the student’s internship program at the Hilton Hotel. Shell has been recognized for its efforts to develop local talent and has been awarded the Qatarisation Awards for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011, becoming the only multinational company in the country to win that honour three years in a row.
