Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) yesterday signed an agreement with Rehabilitation International-Arab Region to sponsor the 5th Rehabilitation Conference, scheduled to be held from September 24 to 27 in Doha.
Qafco vice chairman and CEO Khalifa Abdullah al-Sowaidi and Rehabilitation International-Arab Region vice chairman Mohamed Abdulrahman al-Sayed were the signatories.
As per the agreement, Qafco handed over a cheque of QR750,000/- in support of the conference which will be held under the auspices of HE Sheikha Hessa Bint Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani, chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. Al-Sowaidi said that Qafco’s contribution to the conference is indicative of its concern for people with disabilities. It further expresses Qafco’s keen intention to support the efforts of the State of Qatar in caring for this social group.

“Persons with disabilities deserve special attention from the whole society because they are an indispensable part of the manpower that contributes to the economic development if they receive due rehabilitation and care,” al-Sowaidi stated. Al-Sayed said that the latest report of the WHO and IMF pointed out that the number of persons with disabilities has reached 1bn, i.e., nearly 15% of the world population, with 80% living in developing countries, and a quarter of the world population is affected directly or indirectly by disability.
Rehabilitation International, established in the US, in 1922, is one of the most active organisations in the field of Rights of the disabled in the world. It has 1,000 members from 98 countries, including 49 from 13 Arab Countries. The Rehabilitation International – Arab Region Organisation was established in Lebanon in 2008.
