Qatar Charity helps flood victims in Pakistan

Qatar Charity (QC) has provided assistance to about a thousand households in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts of Pakistan who were affected by the recent floods in the country.

The aid consisted of two fresh meals per day, personal hygiene kits and plastic covers to protect the temporary housing used by families whose homes were damaged. Qatar Charity’s relief team was present on ground from the beginning of the disaster. The team prepared a field report on the monsoon floods, which caused a large of deaths in addition to displacing thousands of people.

According to estimates by Qatar Charity and Pakistani government sources, seven subdivisions within Dera Ghazi Khan and also 10 in Rajanpur district were the worst affected by the monsoon flooding. Between 8,000 and 10,000 homes have been damaged wholly or partially, and nearly 50,000 people been displaced.

Furthermore, due to the damage sustained by infrastructure in the region, 80 percent of the affected areas are difficult to access. Qatar Charity’s field teams were also active during the floods of August 2010, when the teams built 3,700 housing units at a cost of up to more than QR12 million to house those displaced by the disaster.
