Qtel expands 4G Network Trial Group to include more customers

In response to customer demand, Qtel is expanding the number of customers involved in trial phase of the new ultrafast 4G Long-Term-Evolution (LTE) network.

Early in the month, Qtel announced the launch of the 4G LTE trial, including a number of VIP and consistent Mobile Internet customers in the first wave of tests. The 4G LTE network has speeds that are three-to-six times faster than the current high-speed 3G network.

Following the launch, Qtel encountered a huge response from more customers interested in the service at its call centre, on its social media presence and in Qtel Shops across the country, reflecting Qatar’s strong interest in advanced technology.

In response to the demand, Qtel has launched a competition where customers can leave a comment on the company’s Facebook page, and win the chance to be one of 100 new members of the test programme, receiving a 4G USB dongle to use on the programme.

After spending more than a year developing and testing the 4G LTE technology, Qtel expects to launch the network commercially by the end of 2012 or early 2013. This 4G LTE network enables customers to instantaneously access high-bandwidth content. This includes watching high-definition video, transferring large files, viewing multimedia-rich websites and using interactive mobile apps.

For customers selected for the trial, Qtel provides them with a special dongle for their laptops or desktops. This dongle enables users to connect to the Internet anywhere, anytime in the 4G LTE network coverage area.
