The deadline for schools to register for the 6th edition of Qatar’s Schools Olympic Program (SOP) is September 26.
This was announced during the teachers’ meeting involving over 300 independent and international schools in Qatar, at the Al Sharq Hotel and Spa, in the presence of officials from Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Supreme Education Council and Enterprise Qatar, the official partner for this year.
The meeting outlined the activities and schedule of this year’s edition for participating teachers, while also introducing them to the new SOP logo.
The Vice President of SOP Organizing Committee, Mr. Khalil Al Jaber, said: “I would like to thank all the teachers who took the time to attend this technical meeting. Our aim is to improve the level of participation in SOP for the benefit of our young generation”.
QOC Head of Media, Mr. Hassan al Mohammadi said: ‘We are gathered today to enhance our communication with schools and better understand their needs. All schools are requested to nominate at least two focal points, one in charge of sports and the second can handle the investment theme activities”.
He said focal points will help the public learn more about schools activities during the Schools Olympic Program and keeping parents in the loop and encourage them to motivate their children to play and win.
In addition, QOC Sports Affairs Director, Mr. Issa Al Ghanem gave a brief about the rules and regulations of the SOP 6th edition. EQ’s Enterprise Education Senior Manager, Seonad Cook, briefed students on a proposed “National Business Plan Competition” that will run in conjunction with the season’s sports events as well as the innovation camp and trade fair to take place at the SOP closing day.
This year’s Schools Olympic Program, which will run from October 2012 to April 2013, will feature, in addition to ten sports disciplines, many side activities under the investment theme.
Held annually in Qatar since 2007, the SOP is a collaborative effort of the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Supreme Education Council, Qatar School Sport Federation and Qatar Paralympics Committee to engage the community in an active, healthy lifestyle and promote a sporting culture in Qatar, in line with the goals of Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
