A Qatar Airways aircraft landed safely at Lagos International Airport this afternoon after one of its tyres was reported with low pressure soon after takeoff from Doha International Airport. Flight QR592, an Airbus A330, was carrying 148 passengers and 14 crew onboard.
At no time was the landing declared an emergency by the captain, but as a precautionary measure, the airport authorities in Lagos deployed the emergency services. Qatar Airways’ cockpit crew are fully trained in such situations and follow normal text book procedures to ensure safe landings.
An airline spokesperson said: “At no point during the flight, or upon landing, was the safety of passengers or crew compromised in any way. The incident affected one of ten tyres. This was a perfect landing carried out by the cockpit crew who undergo hours of rigorous training and carry out full procedures to deal with any eventuality as laid out in their operating manual to ensure safe flights. If in any way the safety of the passengers was at risk while in flight, the aircraft would have returned to Doha”.
The aircraft took off from Doha at 0747 hrs today (local time Doha), arriving into Lagos at 1309 hrs (local time Lagos).
