Qtel Group, Qtel and Nawras all won prestigious awards recognising their world-class products and services at the Telecoms World Middle East Awards in Dubai this week.
Qtel won for “Best Middle Eastern Wholesale Carrier” in a highly competitive category, beating some long-established companies in this area. Since launching its wholesale operations in 2010, Qtel has become the fastest-growing wholesale operator in the region, with revenues growing more than 100 percent.
In entering this new field, Qtel now provides a world-class network that serves as a global exchange for Internet traffic, from East Asia to Europe to the United States. The emergence of Qtel as a major provider of wholesale services has added significant value to Qtel’s business, as well as helping to position Qatar as a communications hub and contributing to the knowledge-based economy.
Yousuf Al Kubaisi, Chief Wholesale and International Officer, Qtel said: “To receive this international award after just two years reflects our impressive entry into this field. We believe that Qtel can become a regional and ultimately global leader in the field of wholesale and international services. I would like to pay tribute to our Board, and management team, whose support has enabled the launch of our wholesale business.”
Qtel Group won the star award of the evening, as “Best Operator”, coming first in a competitive field that included Etisalat, Batelco, MTN Irancell, Umniah Mobile Company, VIVA, and Zain Group.
Judges recognised the solid progress Qtel Group has made in 2012 since announcing a shift in strategy at the start of the year. In particular, the company’s focus on enhancing the customer experience, through a range of targeted services and development of Broadband and Fibre offerings, helped distinguish the company in a challenging category.
Meanwhile, Nawras in Oman won “Best Customer Strategy”, recognising the company’s successful efforts in attracting new customers and retaining existing customers with innovative strategies and reward programmes. There was also an award for Wataniya Telecom Algérie (Nedjma) at the Africa Telecom People 2012 Awards this week, which saw the company win the “Best Mobile Operator in North Africa Award (Voice)” for the fourth consecutive year.
In a week of awards that continues to demonstrate the company’s excellence, Qtel Group CEO Dr. Nasser Marafih was also named No. 62 in the Global Telecoms Business Power 100 annual ranking.
