Barzan Gas Project to energise Qatar’s infrastructure development

As Qatar anticipates an increased demand for energy to fuel infrastructure projects over the next decade, the Barzan Gas Project becomes of monumental significance for the sustainable growth of Qatar.

Intended to fuel the country’s planned mega-projects, the Barzan gas-processing trains will make RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) one of the largest single gas processors in the world.

Delivering a presentation entitled “Successfully Executing the Barzan Gas Project” at the Gastech Conference and Exhibition currently being held in London, Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Tayeeb, Head of Venture Planning and Optimisation at RasGas, showcased the magnitude of the project currently underway.

“The Barzan Gas Project is aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 thereby supporting the long-term sustainable development of the State of Qatar. The Vision focuses on utilizing Qatar’s natural resources to support the future infrastructure growth. Not only are we working to energise mega projects estimated to be worth tens of billions of dollars, we are also implementing the latest technological innovations that maximise the project’s efficiency and minimise environmental impact,” added Tayeeb.

The Barzan Gas Project is a joint venture project owned by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil Qatar Incorporated for which RasGas is the operating company. It currently consists of two trains with the first planned to come on stream in 2014.

“Once the project comes on stream, RasGas‘ production will increase to 11 Bscfd making RasGas one of the largest single gas processors in the world. RasGas has been very diligently executing the project, on time and within budget,” said Tayeeb.

The Gastech conference and exhibition is held approximately once every 18 months. This is RasGas’ eighth consecutive participation in the industry event for which it is also a sponsor.
