Qatari short film named semi-finalist in international competition

A team of Qatar-based filmmakers has been named semifinalists in the Focus Forward Filmmaker Competition. Robot Camel Jockeys explores the achievements of Rashid Ali Ibrahim for inventing the first robot camel jockey, which aided the campaign for the abolishment of child jockeys in the region.

Robot Camel Jockeys is the only Qatari film to reach the semifinals in the Focus Forward Filmmaker Competition. The three-minute film has been selected for its wonderful ability to showcase incredible achievements in innovation and invention in Qatar and beyond. Robot Camel Jockeys was directed by James Rawson who worked with Tarek Abu-Esber, Maryam Al Sahli, and Lana Shamma.

On 21 November, an industry jury will nominate 5 finalists who will be invited to Sundance Film Festival in January 2013. There, they will be awarded cash prizes between $10,000 and $100,000.
