Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) announced the Dean’s List for the spring 2017 academic semester, recognizing 126 students for exemplary academic performance.

“To earn a place on the Dean’s List is no small feat. In each and every class, students are challenged to delve deep, think creatively, study and review, and work very, very hard. The students who are on the spring 2017 Dean’s List have risen to the challenge, and I congratulate them and wish them continued success,” said Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q.

Qatar Biobank recently concluded its Summer Experience Program for university students and recent graduates. Five students – three graduates and two undergraduates from the biomedical sciences program at Qatar University – completed the four-week program, which is aimed at understanding the principles of biobanking and in particular, the work carried out by Qatar Biobank. The students also learned about the laboratory techniques used by Qatar Biobank, including DNA extraction and quantification.

William Grant, the chargé d’affaires, ad interim of the U.S. Embassy in Doha, Qatar, visited Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) as part of a visit to all American universities in Education City. In addition to attending a meeting with Education City deans, he also took a tour of the University’s new state-of-the-art media and communication building.

‘Screen for Life’, the National Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening Program led by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and supported by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), has conducted over 6,000 breast screenings since the program was launched in  2016. The program, which is conducted under Qatar’s National Cancer Program, represents a shift towards preventive and community-based care and mainly targets women aged 45 to 69.

Earlier this month the International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised up its outlook for the global economy. It now expects global growth at 3.6% in 2017, slightly up from its previous forecast of 3.5% and higher than realised growth of 3.2% in 2016. Rebounding trade, higher commodity prices and an accommodative monetary policy environment are among the main factors driving what’s now expected to be the highest global growth outturn since 2014.

Qatar Insurance, the leading insurer in the MENA recently held a blood donation campaign at QIC’s Headquarters in West Bay. The campaign was organized by QIC’s Corporate Communications & Public Relations Department in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Blood Donation Unit. HMC mobilized its blood donation bus along with its medical unit to assist in the successful completion of the blood donation drive.

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, a member of Qatar Foundation, has announced that Marcel Khalifé, a UNESCO artist for peace, will perform on Friday, November 3, in ‘The Music of Marcel and Rami Khalifé’. The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra event will take place at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Auditorium 3.
