During a recent courtesy visit to Qatar by Xavier Bontemps, Total’s Senior Vice President Polymers Business Unit, and Philippe Montagne, Vice President PolyOlefins Orient at Total Refining & Chemicals, they were hosted at the QAPCO and Qatofin plants located in Mesaieed. This visit builds on the long-term partnership shared between the two companies, both having worked consistently for the development of the petrochemical industry of the country, thus strengthening synergies between the upstream and chemicals branches of the Total Group.

The State of Qatar hosted the GCC Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee meetings. HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada chaired the 28th ministerial meeting held on September 8th with the participation of the GCC Electricity and Water Affairs Ministers. Al-Sada welcomed the delegations reviewing committee achievements within the cooperation among GCC countries thanks to the wise instructions of GCC leaders.

Qatar plans to build 2,000 residential villas at a cost of QR10 billion in the next four years. The villas are expected to come up in an area of 2,500,000 sqm in the southern part of Doha.

The world’s largest international showcase of Halal travel - a sector that is currently worth $150 billion- has been postponed. The Halal Tourism Conference 2015 was set to take place in Turkey In December bringing together delegates from across the globe to discuss and shape the agenda of one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. However, organisers today said that due to an increased level of demand and attendance by ministerial delegates from across the world, the event has been postponed for three months.

Grand Regal Hotel has appointed Reyrelly Garcia as its new Sushi Chef to add his creative flair to a daily buffet at the Light House Restaurant. Reyrelly most recently worked as a commis chef at Benihana Restaurant at the Beach Rotana Abu-Dhabi, where he has been awarded Employee of the Month.  Reyrelly specializes in Japanese cuisine, in preparing sushi, sashimi and nigiri. He has previously worked at some Asian restaurants in Philippines.

Qatar Career Fair (QCF), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), has successfully concluded its third Summer Career Camp. A closing ceremony was recently held at Education City’s Recreation Centre, during which, certificates were presented to the participating students, in the presence of their parents.

The conveners of the 22nd annual World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC) revealed today the ranking of the top 15 global Islamic banks rated according to their financial disclosure, subsequent to the announcement of the launch of the WIBC Leaderboard. As per the rankings, Malaysian based Hong Leong Islamic Bank lead the global financial disclosure index rankings with a score of 80. Next, on the ranking charts is Al Baraka bank and Venture Capital bank, both based in Bahrain with a score of 69 and 68 respectively.

A joint venture between Al-Futtaim Engineering’s Qatar operations under the name Hamad and Mohamad Al-Futtaim and Voltas Qatar has been awarded a multi-million Qatari Riyal Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) contract within the giant Doha Festival City development. The contract, worth over QR 500 million will see the joint venture undertake MEP works for the main mall. The project is expected to be completed by 2016.

The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), a global initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), honoured a jury of internationally distinguished individuals, including the Hon. Ms Julia Gillard, Former Prime Minister of Australia,who are tasked with selecting the 2015 WISE Prize for Education Laureate. The Laureate is to be announced at the WISE Summit in Doha, set to take place 3-5 November 2015.
