To protect workers’ rights and simplify litigation between an employer and worker, Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued Law No. 13 of 2017 under which a Labour Dispute Resolution Committee (LDRC) will be formed among other legal steps. The Committee will be established within the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.

A new free app from Georgetown University in Qatar's (GU-Q) Arabic language programme aims to make it easier for expatriates and tourists to strike up conversations with locals in Qatar. The Qatari Phrasebook app is a quick reference guide that provides users with both the written and spoken form of more than 1,500 common Arabic words and phrases, as well as pronunciation tips.

Qatar Airways has announced it will launch flights to beautiful Chiang Mai, its fourth destination in Thailand, as it expands to meet increased demand for Thai destinations from holiday-makers. The new route comes in addition to existing services to the Thai capital Bangkok, and to the top holiday destinations of Phuket and Krabi. The new four-times weekly seasonal service will operate between Doha and Chiang Mai (CNX), using a wide-body aircraft, from December 2017 until May 2018.

Milaha, a Qatar-based maritime and logistics conglomerate, has launched the first ever direct feeder service between Qatar and Kuwait. The new service, named KQX (Kuwait Qatar Express Service), will operate between Hamad Port in Qatar and Shuwaikh Port in Kuwait once a week initially, using a 515 TEU vessel.

A Qatar Airways captain helped International Youth Day take off at Doha’s KidzMondo – located in the Mall of Qatar – with the aid of two would-be pilots. International Youth Day 2017 is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace. The annual event was initiated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, when announced that 12 August should be International Youth Day.
