Ooredoo has signed a two-year partnership agreement with the Qatar Stars League (QSL) to sponsor the QSL Cup, which will now be called Ooredoo Cup.

The tournament will start on 6th September, 2019, with the participation of First Division clubs. Teams will be divided into two groups and the top four from each group will qualify for the knock-out quarter finals. The final has been scheduled for 30th March, 2020.

The biggest Summer in Qatar program wrapped up on Friday, 16th August after a week of colourful Eid Al Adha celebrations in Souq Waqif, Al Wakra, Katara and all the partner shopping malls as well as a lineup of multicultural music, comedy, theatre and movie award shows. The grand finale of Summer in Qatar’s shopping celebration was held at Mall of Qatar, with winners of the third and final raffle draw announced.

Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) have discovered unexpectedly high levels of chlamydia infection among the general population in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and higher levels still among women in the region who are infertile or suffer pregnancy complications.

The research, published in the prestigious UK journal The Lancet Global Health, reports that chlamydia infection appears to be responsible for a substantial proportion of infertility cases among women in this part of the world.

On 4 August 2019, guest workers in the Al Shahaniya area conducted a peaceful strike in response to the non-payment of salaries by their employers in May, June and July 2019.

An investigation was immediately launched and the authorised signatories of the two companies in question were arrested. The findings of the investigation confirmed that salaries had been delayed following a period of negative cash flow at both companies, caused by non-payments elsewhere in the supply chain.

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has been working on an experimental project with a Japanese company, to paint the Abdullah Bin Jassim Street near Souq Waqif in Doha in blue to reduce the temperature of the asphalt by around 15 - 20C, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported Friday.
