A fire which broke out on a Maersk Oil platform off Qatar on Thursday has been put out, and that no serious injuries were reported after the fire broke out in the emergency generator room of the AD accommodation platform in the Al Shaheen field, an official source at Qatar Petroleum (QP) said in a press statement.

The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage will host an event on Sunday entitled "Life is a Book" in coordination with Qatar University to mark the World Book Day. The event will last for three days. "Life is a Book" aims to show the importance of books and encourage reading as well as the joy that reading brings. The event will also aim to show how reading reinforces consciousness.

Vodafone Qatar and Doha Municipality yesterday signed an agreement, where the country’s second telecom operator will build a children’s play area at the Sheraton Park. The agreement was signed at the Knowledge Enrichment Centre of Dohaland located adjacent to the Sheraton Park, which will, when renovations are completed in four months’ time, have a 1,100sqm of play area and nine “newest and most innovative” rides for children in the age-group of 2-15, officials said.
