After publicizing the sponsors for the 10th GCC Banking Conference, a press conference was held to officially launch the event and formally announce and thank the banks and financial institutions for their support.

Under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani, Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and in collaboration with Secretariat General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, QCB will host the 10th GCC Banking Conference in Doha, Qatar, on 23-24 of March, 2011 – to be held under the title of “Gulf Banking and its role in GCC Countries’ development in light of current changes – Reality and ambitions” in the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

On behalf of the organizing committee and the hosts, I would like to officially announce the launch of the 10th GCC Banking Conference,” said Mr. Jassem Al Baker, Head of the Organizing Committee. “I would like to personally thank the banks for their unqualified support.  Without the sponsors, this conference which tackles important regional banking issues would not have been possible.”

Ten banks from three different GCC countries have offered support to the conference.

The Host Sponsor, Qatar National Bank, was established over forty years ago, with ownership split equally between the government’s Qatar Investment Authority and the private sector.  With almost 40% of the market share by assets, QNB is the leading bank in the country, and one of the largest in the region.

The other sponsors include Commercial Bank of Qatar (Platinum Sponsor), َQIB (Gold Sponsor), and Bronze Sponsors the National Bank of Bahrain, Masraf Al Rayyan, BarwaBank, Doha Bank, the National Bank of Kuwait, International bank of Qatar and First Finance as a support sponsor.

“The 10th GCC Banking Conference is a forum to discuss crucial developments and issues affecting regional banking environment,” said Mr. Karim Zarka, Managing Director of Qatar Expo Event Management, the conference organizers. “The sponsors have recognized the importance of such an event, and we are grateful for their support.”

The 10th GCC Banking Conference is being held in cooperation with Qatar Expo Event Management and is the latest of a series of conferences beginning in 1985 and is held every two years in one of the six GCC countries.

The agenda of the conference comprises a big number of important topics, including the making of banking auditing systems and regulations in GCC member states to enhance a new era in regional banking practices.  It also aims at providing a practical platform to debate and shed light on the most prominent challenges faced by GCC markets.

The event is being held with a notable presence of over forty percent of the delegates coming from all over the world, mostly from GCC states, and eighty percent of the targeted number of delegates has been met.
