The month of Pink October is one of the most meaningful months for AJA’s students. It is a month when all students unite in a communal effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer. This achieved by hosting activities to raise funds and educate all students on the symptoms of breast cancer and how the disease can be fought successfully.

Pink October has been “brilliant so far” in the words of Ms Renee Lucas, Year 11 and Year 12 Lead Teacher, who is supervising the breast cancer prevention activities. Aldana Al Khalaf, Head Girl 2018 – 2019 is spearheading student engagement to make a strong and lasting impact of preventing breast cancer – the most common type of cancer and the leading cause of deaths in Qatar. Entertaining activities to keep students engaged throughout the month are:

  • Bake sales (10th and 17th)
  • Cake decorations (18th) - At the girls’ canteen, excitement is brewing about this popular event with so many student teams (females only event) who signed up and are ready to go. The theme for this year is Disney
  • Writing competitions
  • Talent show
  • Pink ribbons
  • T-shirts
  • Wear pink. 18th - Teachers and admin staff wore pink to show their support (male staff included).

The activities have so far raised QAR17,413 and is likely to spike in the coming days. The Student Council at the Girls School through its Head Girl thanks all students, staff and parents for their continued support in making this a success every year. "Do cooperate in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression.” Allah commands his believing servants to support one another to perform righteous, good deeds, and to avoid sins.
