Qatar's international champion Nasser Al-Attiyah entered the cup of the crowned championships after finishing second in the 13th and final stage of the Dakar International Rally.

Al-Attiyah won his title after finishing the final stage between Cordoba and Buenos Aires.

He finished second in the 13th and final stage Saturday as Volkswagen swept the podium. Carlos Sainz of Spain, the 2010 champion, won the stage by 38 seconds from Al-Attiyah to hold onto third overall.

"We drove a good, clean stage. I was just thinking about the finish line. It means a lot to win a Dakar, for me, for my people, for my country and for my team," said Al-Attiyah.
