Local distributor of German vehicle-brand BMW, Alfardan Automobiles, yesterday presented the all-new BMW X3 to the Qatari market.

The Qatar launch followed the successful début of this second-generation sports-activity-vehicle (SAV) at the Paris Motor Show in October 2010, seven years after BMW first introduced the original X3.

“Seven years ago, Alfardan Automobiles launched the first BMW X3 in Qatar, heralding a first-ever entry for BMW into the mid-size premium SAV segment. Today, the second generation BMW X3 makes its much anticipated debut in Qatar,” company general manager Mohamed Kandeel said.

With a totally redesigned exterior and interior, as well as new engines, the second-generation X3 model is expected to strengthen BMW’s position in the SAV segment in Qatar.
“The new BMW X3 is positioned above the recently-launched X1 and below the BMW X5 and X6, thereby opening up the X Range to a wider range of customers,” he said.
Two models, xDrive 28i (258bhp) and xDrive 35i (306bhp), are being made available in Qatar, with six-cylinder engines backed by twin-turbo technology and an 8-speed automatic transmission with
Steptronic.

The X3 has been designed around BMW’s EfficientDynamics strategy that encompasses many technology innovations to offer a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emission.
It comes with brake energy regeneration, EPS electric power steering, demand-controlled ancillary components, intelligent lightweight construction and tires with reduced rolling resistance that all contribute towards lowering fuel consumption and exhaust emission levels.

“It’s a versatile vehicle, with innovative technology, elegant and sporty design, exceptional driving dynamics and class-leading fuel efficiency. BMW‘s X range of models are very popular in Qatar, so we expect the newly designed and engineered X3 to build on this X model success story and contribute to a successful year for Alfardan Automobiles in 2011.”

In 2010, the company posted an impressive growth rate of 9%, while 2011 is expected to be even better with 15% sales increase, Kandeel said.
The figure will be realised thanks to host of new model launches, including two new MINIs in 2011.
Hitting the road will be MINI Countryman and MINI Coupe, BMW 6 Series Convertible and Coupe, BMW 1 Series M Coupe, and the new M5, officials said.

The BMW X3 xDrive28i has been tagged at QR199,999+ while the beastlier version starts at QR245,000.
