Qatar’s premier luxury real estate solutions and services company, Alfardan Properties, has been recognised for its contributions towards Qatar’s National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed).

Under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) launched Tarsheed to ensure Qatar’s resources are protected for the benefit of future generations. HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar honoured Mr. Omar Alfardan, President & CEO of Alfardan Group, for Alfardan Properties’ contributions and innovative approach to sustainability across its vast portfolio of residential and commercial premium properties.

Al Gassar Resort, an Alfardan Elite Collection property, received first prize in the Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition in the category ‘Residential.’ Al Gassar Resort was recognized for various implementation of many building conserving initiatives including District Cooling Plant and Motion Detector Sensors in public areas, but most notably for its Grey Water Treatment Plant which is a landmark initiative from Alfardan Properties designed to conserve water consumption – a topic regularly discussed on a national scale for its importance to Qatar’s future.

Numerous building conserving initiatives have contributed to the recognition of Al Gassar Resort and showcased the forward-thinking sustainable approach to residential living. The Grey Water Treatment Plant is a great example as it encourages innovation in water supply, reuse and recycling, and increases the efficient use of water within domestic settings. It collects grey water from the three towers’ showers and hand wash areas, and through a filtration, chemical and purification system, is re-pumped for the apartment and public areas QC flushing systems. Last year, Alfardan Properties signed a partnership agreement and pledged alongside KAHRAMAA to help meet national aspirations to achieve some of the critical goals for water and electricity conservation.

Tarsheed Annual Celebration, including Conserving Building Competition, recognizes the buildings that incorporate, support and promote best practices in conservation of energy, water and other natural resources. Buildings were evaluated in several phases by a panel of experts representing research centers, universities and ministries. Since its inception, Tarsheed has succeeded in reducing the per capita Electricity and Water consumption by 14% and 17%, respectively. The ongoing National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency has made an effective saving of about QR800mn until 2015, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and consumption of gases.
