Al Jazeera Media Training and Development Center has launched a special course under the title “Dealing with the media” for Qataris who work at Maersk Oil Qatar. This course supports a joint cooperation between the two parties for developing leadership competencies of Qatari workers; it also aims to develop their presentation skills so that they can represent the Company at external events both locally and internationally.

This cooperation is the first of its kind between Aljazeera Training Center and Maersk Oil Qatar; more than fifty Qatari participants will be trained in the coming months, divided into several training groups, where eight participants are trained separately in each group.

The first group was trained by Dr. Faisal Al Qasim, who taught the group interview techniques and communication skills that will support them in their role as ambassadors for Maersk Oil Qatar.  The participants received guidance on how to prepare for interviews and deliver clear messages when dealing with radio, television and newspaper journalists- and finally they learnt about the ethics of dealing with the press.

Sheikh Faisal Bin Fahad Al Thani, Deputy Managing Director of Maersk Oil Qatar, said: "Maersk Oil Qatar makes a significant economic and social contribution to the State of Qatar. We have a large Qatari workforce, and we are committed to providing them with learning and development opportunities. With our partner Qatar Petroleum, Maersk Oil has made many significant achievements in the 20 years that we have operated in Qatar. It is very important that our employees have the skills and confidence to articulate our achievements. This is also an important element of their leadership development”

"We have launched a number of initiatives to help us attract, retain, develop and enrich our human capital on all levels, and we are proud to have a number of Qatari staff members in important positions in Maersk Oil Qatar” explained Sheikh Faisal.

Mounir Daymi, Director of Al Jazeera Media Training & Development Center, welcomed the cooperation between the Al-Jazeera Media Network and Maersk Oil Qatar, noting that one of the main priorities and objectives of the Al Jazeera Network is to work with local institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations in order to develop the capabilities of employees from these institutions to effectively engage with the media.

From the participants side, they expressed their delights with the course and development that they have achieved, Abdulrahman Al-Emadi, one of the participants said “I was happy with what I have learned;the ability to plan and prepare for an interview in a short time period, and the ability to face the camera and confidently present myself”

Mohammed Abdulmalik, another course participant said: “We got to know each other and we were able to communicate with the media easily and more confidently. This was a great learning and development opportunity”.
