Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) marked the conclusion of its seventh Ramadan Sports Festival in a grand awards ceremony on Sunday evening, to celebrate the winners in seven team sports competitions, organised as part of the 12-day Festival. Awards were given to participants in the men’s and women’s volleyball tournament, and men’s basketball, indoor hockey, cricket and football competitions, and the indoor futsal tournament, organised for Aspire Zone Foundation’s employees.

The Ramadan Sports Festival 2018 in numbers:

  • Nearly 1000 male and female participants, 79 teams, 11 sports tournaments, making it Qatar’s biggest Ramadan event.
    • Men’s Football: More than 140 players across 12 teams
    • Men’s Hockey: More than110 players across 14 teams, which is a testament to the growing popularity of the sport in Qatar
    • Men’s Basketball: 95 players across 12 teams
    • Men’s Cricket: 90 players across 10 teams
    • Staff Tournaments: Nearly 90 employees from Aspire Zone Foundation and its member organisations; Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics, participated in Futsal and Telematch competitions
    • Men’s Volleyball: More than 100 players across 12 teams
    • Ladies Volleyball: 55 players took part
    • Sports events for people with special needs: More than 40 participants in Aspire Zone Foundation’s sporting competitions for people with special needs
    • Junior Fitness Challenge: More than 30 participants in the first fitness challenge organised this year

The Ramadan Sports Festival 2018 is the only event that has:

  • Various sports tournaments organised in Aspire Zone’s indoor and outdoor pitches
  • Sports activities for juniors aged between nine and 14 years old
  • Two events for people with special needs: The first Table Tennis, and the second is scuba diving, organised in collaboration with the Qatar Paralympic Committee and the Freestyle Aquatics non-profit organisation respectively
  • Ladies only sports events.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Abdulla Nasser Al Naemi, Director General of Aspire Logistics, said: “I am delighted to be with you today to celebrate the seventh Ramadan Sports Festival and the awarding of the winning teams. The 12-day Festival saw incredible participation from different segments and communities in the society, including men, women, juniors and people with special needs, for whom we allocated two events as part of Aspire Zone Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.”

He remarked that the true prize of this festival is that it encouraged community members to remain active and healthy during Ramadan, whilst still having fun, and added: “I congratulate all the teams that won and took part in this year’s competitions. The true prize is that you all got to enjoy the competitions with which we wanted to encourage community members to be active and healthy whilst enjoying the fun and competitive environment. I’d also like to extend my thanks to all the sports federations in Qatar, and for the Festival’s official partners, Ooredoo and Nissan, for their support his year.”

Table Tennis competition to kick off the Awarding Ceremony

The awarding ceremony kicked off with a Table Tennis competition between Qatar’s national table tennis player and Aspire Academy’s graduate, Abdulrahman Al Najjar, against Ismail Yousef, one of the participants at the Table Tennis for people with special needs competition. After the competition, Al Najjar dedicated his national shirt to Ismail.

The awarding ceremony of the Ramadan Sports Festival saw great attendance by senior officials from Aspire Zone Foundation and its Member Organisations, including: Mr. Abdulla Nasser Al-Naemi, Director General of Aspire Logistics, Mr. Ali Salem Afifa, Deputy Director General of Aspire Academy, Mr. Mr. Mohammed Mubarak Al-Kuwari, Chief Marketing Officer of Aspire Zone Foundation, Mr. Badr Al-Hay, Director, Student Care and Education at Aspire Academy, Mr. Abdullah Aman Al Khater, Chairman of the Ramadan Sport Festival 2018’s organising committee, Mr. Ahmad Al-Sulaiti, Chief Administration Officer at Aspire Logistics, Mr. Rashid Al-Khalifa, Deputy Operations Chief Officer at Aspire Logistics and Mr. Nasser Abdulla Al-Hajri, Director of PR and Communications at Aspire Zone Foundation.

Representatives from local sports federations and the event’s sponsors were also in attendance. Winners of the Ramadan Sports Festival 2018

  • Al-Ajaeb team won first place at the Indoor Hockey tournament, followed by AlOsood team in second place and Mesaieed team in third place. Mr. Youssef Jeham AlKuwari, President of the Qatar Rugby, Hockey and Cricket Federation (QRHCF) and Mr. Abdulla Al-Mohannadi, Events Manager at Ooredoo awarded the winners.
  • Royal Phoenix team won first place at the Men’s Cricket tournament, followed by the KCC team in second place. Mr. Youssef Jeham Alkuwari, President of the Qatar Rugby, Hockey and Cricket Federation (QRHCF), and Mr. Abdulla Al-Khater, Chairman of the Ramadan Sports Festival 2018’s organising committee, awarded the winners.
  • Aktor team won first place at the Ladies Volleyball tournament, followed by ALS team in second place and Bom General team in third place. Ms. Khayriya Al-Absi, Sales Manager at Aspire Logistics, member of Aspire Zone Foundation, and Ms. Alanoud Almesnad, Acting Head of Events at Aspire Logistics, member of Aspire Zone Foundation, awarded the winners.
  • The Eagles team won first place at the Men’s Volleyball tournament, followed by the Riders team in second place and Yafak team in third place. Mr. Ahmad Al-Sulaiti, Chief Administration Officer at Aspire Logistics member of Aspire Zone Foundation and Mr. Shafeek Idrees, Marketing Manager at Nissan.
  • Doha Ballers team won first place at the Men’s Basketball tournament, followed by the Money team in second place and the Dreams team in third place. Mr. Ali Salem Afifa, Deputy Director General of Aspire Academy, member of Aspire Zone Foundation, and Mr. Rashid Al-Khalifa, Deputy Operations Chief Officer at Aspire Logistics member of Aspire Zone Foundation, awarded the winners.
  • Al-Adam team won first place at the Men’s Football tournament, followed by QWSC team in second place and Shabab Al-Quds team in third place. Mr. Badr Al-Hay, Director, Student Care and Education at Aspire Academy, member of Aspire Zone Foundation, and Mr. Abdulla Aman Al-Khater, Chairman of the Ramadan Sports Festival 2018’s organisisng committee, awarded the winners.
  • Aspire Logistics team won first place at the Staff Futsal tournament, followed by Veterans in second place and Inspirers in third place. Mr. Abdulla Nasser Al-Naemi, Director General of Aspire Logistics and Mr. Nasser Abdulla Al-Hajri, Director of PR and Communications at Aspire Zone Foundation, awarded the winners.

Competitions for the audience

On the sidelines of the awarding ceremony, Aspire Zone Foundation engaged the audience with questions about the Festival and awarding ceremony as well as basketball scoring competitions. Winners received vouchers and free invitations from the event’s sponsors.

Sports in Aspire Zone available all year

Now that the Ramadan Sports Festival has ended, Aspire Zone Foundation’s team of logistics experts resume preparations for a wider range of exciting events at its world-class facilities, that cater to all members of the community year-round.
