The United Nations’ International Law Commission (ILC) held its 70th session at the UN Headquarters in New York, with the participation of HE the Attorney General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri, as the most senior member of the commission who was re-elected in 2016 at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly for the fourth consecutive year.

The ILC began its session by electing a new chairman and a number of deputies representing geographical groups, and then proceeded to discuss its agenda. It will discuss a number of topics including immunity of State officials from foreign criminal jurisdiction; subsequent agreements and subsequent practice in relation to the interpretation of treaties; provisional application of treaties; identification of customary international law and  protection of the environment in relation to armed conflicts.
