The International Society of Automation (ISA) Qatar Section, the largest worldwide professional body of automation engineering professionals, has recently organised its 98th technical seminar on 'Cyber Security for Industrial Infrastructure in Oil & Gas Industry', in collaboration with Cyber Automation Security solutions Co (CASSCO) and NECON at Radisson Blu Hotel recently. 

Luis Debabarre of SENTRYO from France presented a new model for implementation of cyber security in Industrial Control System and a live demo of cyber attack on industrial control systems and how to defend against them. The keynote speaker was Khalid al Hashemi from Ministry of Transport and Communications. He highlighted the need for changes to the current Industrial control system architecture for incorporating cyber security features as per the guidelines given in the National Cyber Security Standard for Industrial Control Systems.

Nilangshu Dey, president ISA Qatar Section and executive board member - ISA global, has urged all oil and gas automation experts to incorporate cyber security requirements in all control system architecture as per the Qatar National standard / IEC 62443 / ISA 99 in order to safeguard the plant operation from internal and external threats. The seminar was followed by live demo on cyber attack to Programmable controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) and how to safeguard it. 

The seminar was presided over by Nilangshu Dey and attended by senior officials from Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Gas, Ras Gas, QAFAC, QChem, QAPCO, Oryx GTL, QVC, QASCO, QEWC, Kahramaa, Ashghal and other reputed Engineering & Contracting companies in Qatar.
