Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech participated in several activities at Katara cultural village on the occasion of Qatar National Sport Day. Held on Tuesday, 9thFebruary 2016, Bedaya introduced “DUKAN”, a pop-up shop that showcased upcoming sports and health startups.

This initiative is directed at supporting local entrepreneurs and startups in the field of healthcare & sports. Bedaya’s goals are also aligned with assisting young people to start their own new business in order to have a new generation of entrepreneurs who will be tomorrow’s foundation to build Qatar’s brightest future.

During the National Sport Day celebration, six startup projects that participated in the Bedaya pop-up shop “DUKAN” included: “Gate To Wellness” - the first and only specialised medical tourism company in Doha; “Oryx” - the company specialised in manufacturing sports T-shirts and caps; “Bushama” - the sports clothing manufacturer; “Reem Covers” - the company specialised in selling phone covers and bags designed specifically for sports events; “Rashfa” - the outlet focused on herbal tea and 20 other types of healthy herbs and “JahezBatnek” - the food & beverages outlet for healthy food and crepe.

Reem Al-Suwaidi (pictured), General Manager of Bedaya Center, commented: “We are glad to participate in one of the most important initiatives in town, the Qatar National Sport Day, which reflects the interest of Qatar's leadership, government and people to promote sports & healthy habits. This will also raise awareness of the importance of sports and the substantial role it plays in the lives of the community members. Moreover, it serves the objectives of the National Health Strategy (2011-2016), and is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. The main objective of this day is to turn sports into a way of life and not just a hobby, and remain motivated to practice every day.”

“Our participation in the National Sport Day is a reflection of our belief in the importance of this great event and support for entrepreneurs and start-ups through the pop up shop “DUKAN” - the umbrella body we created to help them promote health & sports services and products aligned with the NSD.The initiative will support startupsin Qatar and enhance their position in the local community. This is particularly true with the country witnessing an increase in sporting activities and events. Doha is now the hub and is known as the sports capital in the region, especially with the honour of hosting the 2022 world cup,” she added.
