The Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, successfully concluded a summer camp organised for girls studying in high schools and universities. These students enjoyed all of the activities that took place in the first week in addition to getting the opportunity to experience the work environment during the second week of the camp.

On this occasion, Reem Al-Sowaidi (pictured), General Manager of Bedaya Center, said: “We were keen on allocating a camp for girls during summer time. This was aimed at enabling them to identify the fundamentals of Qatari working environment prior to the completion of the annual holiday season. We strongly believe that this will prepare them to enter into the realm of practical life, and provide a fruitful job shadowing experience."

“The camp gave all participating girls an opportunity to see the different types of jobs and helped them to follow the staff closely while carrying out their work by accompanying them throughout the work day. They also gained expertise that will qualify them to become successful employees in the future,” she added. The first week of the camp witnessed career guidance sessions varying between leadership skills, art of communications, writing CVs, career planning skills, movie productions, health tips and other fun activities such as visiting the Lusail Shooting Club and Qatar Adventure room.

The second week of the camp provided participants the chance to work closely with the contributing companies and institutions that will help them understand the key elements of working in a real environment as well as creating   valuable relationships that can support them in the future. Commenting on this initiative, Ola Abdin, Career Development Manager at Bedaya said: "The Girls Summer camp provided an effective working experience that helped them develop their knowledge, skills and expertise, in addition to offering them a clear understanding of the values, norms and standards adopted by institutions and companies in a real work environment”.

“Such programs and initiatives allow access to the theoretical concepts and the application of business skills in a realistic way, and understand how to develop relationships with employees and customers. The job shadowing program provides a life experience for the working environment and helps introduce the participants to their favorite and preferred domains ofwork areas,” she added. The camp was concluded with a ceremony attended by Mr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al-Khalifa, CEO of Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and Chairman of the Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development, and Sheikha Alanoud Al Thani, Vice Chairman of Bedaya Center’s board and Qatar Country Operations Manager for Silatech, and representatives from all companies and institutions that collaborated in this summer camp.
