Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP), a member of Qatar for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is delighted to announce the publication and book launch of The Holy Sail by Qatari novelist and writer Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud. The celebrated journalist will discuss his second novel The Holy Sail on Monday evening on 24 November at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Student Centre Cinema, located in Education City.
By presenting the outside world with exceptional literary works of Gulf and Arab writers such as The Holy Sail, BQFP is supporting QF on its mission of fostering a progressive, engaged society appreciative of its heritage. A gripping tale of an often neglected period of history in the Arabian Gulf, The Holy Sail is an unprecedented historical fiction that guides us around the medieval world of Lisbon, Cairo, Jeddah and Istanbul. Al Mahmoud uses meticulous historical research methods while at the same time brilliantly weaving a tale of love, honour and nobility.
Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud is a Qatari engineer and journalist. He has a BA in engineering from Clarkson University in New York and an aviation and engineering diploma from the UK. He worked as editor-in-chief of Al Sharq and The Peninsula newspapers as well as www.aljazeera.net. The book launch will be moderated by Qatar University’s Dr Abdullah Baabood, Head of the Gulf Studies Center, and will be conducted in Arabic. Copies of will be available to buy during the launch, with a special book signing being held at Tribe Bookstore in the Student Centre.
